Late Bronze Age stelae usually depict a schematic figure surrounded by his weapons and other prestige objects such as chariots, mirrors and fibulas. This heroised treatment was designed to preserve the memory of the person represented. Meanwhile, the situation of these stelae at strategic points along roads is thought to reflect prehistoric society’s need to establish at least symbolic control over its territory.
