Archaeological Monuments and Ruins

Punic period

The sixty-five images in this section were displayed in different frames at the European History Exhibition, depending on whether they belonged to the Bardo or Saint-Louis Museums and whether or not they featured monuments.

The photographs show numerous objects from the Punic period, funerary stelae, amulets and small grave goods, pottery and terracotta pieces; galleries and storerooms at the aforementioned museums; and tombs and necropolises on the hills of Byrsa and Juno in Carthage, which were being excavated in those years.

Other views of Carthage, the plain of Salammbo and Punic ports evidence the significant environmental changes this area has undergone since the late 19th century, suffering an intense anthropisation that has destroyed the original landscape.
