The National Archaeological Museum presents a highly personal look at the palaces and gardens of the Alhambra, through 57 photographs taken using the same technique, a plate camera, but by two different artists separated in time by 150 years, so paying tribute to the beauty of this monumental complex and its natural environment, a World Heritage Site since 1984 and one of Spain’s art icons.
Salto de línea Jean Laurent (1816-1886), a Frenchman who lived in Madrid from 1843 on, was one of the most important commercial photographers of the 19th century. This exhibition includes 22 selected works from his catalogue dedicated to Granada and the Nasrid Palace, a valuable visual document of the Andalusian city in the second half of the 19th century, and a magnificent display of the knowledge of the photographic techniques of that time.
Salto de línea Fernando Manso (1961), who has spent the last two decades dedicated to art photography using the same 19th-century techniques, shows 35 large-format works, the result of over 500 hours of immersion in the Alhambra, offering the viewer a new, thoughtful, different vision.
