Resumen

En el presente artículo se hace un estudio comparativo del tema de la lucha del héroe contra el monstruo marino. Por un lado se encuentra la Épica babilonia de Gilgamesh y la familia acuática de la sagrada ciudad de Eridu, y, por otro, la traducción y actualización del tema a través de las pruebas o Trabajos del héroe griego Heracles. Ambos mundos conciben la búsqueda de la Inmortalidad a través de un viaje al Más Allá. El viaje heroico tendrá su destino en la sagrada isla de Dilmún en el lado babilonio y en el Jardín de las Hespérides por parte griega. Pese a las similitudes, también hay que destacar notables diferencias, debidas a las concepciones religiosas de los dos pueblos.
