Marko Rukavina (PhD) was born in 1981 in Zagreb (Croatia). He received a Master of Architecture degree at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb in 2008. From 2009 to 2015 he was a research and teaching assistant at the Department of Urban and Spatial Planning and Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb. In 2015 he defended doctoral thesis titled “Archaeological heritage integration method in urban planning”. Since 2015 he is working as postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb.

He is engaged in scientific research in the field of urban planning, spatial planning and landscape architecture with an emphasis on issues of integration and enhancement of archaeological heritage through urban and spatial planning methods. He is an author and co-author of scientific papers and he participated in several national and international scientific conferences in the field of architecture, heritage and planning.

From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the research project Urban and Landscape Heritage of Croatia as a part of European culture. Since 2014 he is a member of the research project Heritage Urbanism - Urban and Spatial Planning Models for Revival and Enhancement of Cultural Heritage (2032).

As a teaching assistant he participates in undergraduate and graduate courses at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb and since 2009 he works also as an associate teaching assistant at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb.

He perfected his scientific, professional and teaching abilities at the Faculty of Architecture University of Ljubljana (2015/2016, teaching assistant), Faculty of Architecture Alghero University of Sassary (2017, visiting researcher), Faculty of Geography and History Complutense University Madrid (2017, visiting researcher) and at the Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb within the international project Iron Age (2017).
