The Programme for Preventive Conservation and Accessibility at the Cave of Altamira was launched in 2012 with the mission of drawing up a preventive conservation plan for the cave and determining the impact of human presence on the condition and future preservation of its rock art.

In January 2014, the programme entered a new phase and began to organise the first experimental visits.

Professor Gaël de Guichen will explore the complex scientific challenge in the field of cultural heritage conservation posed by the need to preserve the Cave of Altamira in the best possible conditions so that generations to come will also be able to discover and enjoy it.

At the end of the lecture, he will be joined at the table for a question-and-answer time by the programme’s technical director and Deputy Director-General of the Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain, Alfonso Muñoz Cosme, and the Director of the National Museum and Research Centre of Altamira, José Antonio Lasheras.
