Tresminas mining area consists of two large mining opencasts (Covas and Ribeirinha) and another smaller (Lagoinhos). Various hydraulic structures (dams, canals and reservoirs) are associated, since the water was essential in all phases of the mining process.

The remains of the mining work highlights a number of underground galleries for evacuation and prospecting and, especially, many stamp mills or mortar stones used to grind the ore and allow obtaining the gold.

In its surroundings various settlements and inscriptions are found and date the occupation period in time of the Early Roman Empire. It is one of the most spectacular cultural landscapes of the Peninsular Northwest and is one of the most important mines of the Roman World.

Se conservan también enormes escombreras que llegan a rellenar valles y uno de los elementos más característicos de esta zona minera: un gran número de molinos de pilones o morteros de granito utilizados en el molido final del mineral.

Pero también quedan importantes testimonios de los hombres y mujeres que vivieron y trabajaron en Tresminas, y que murieron allí en los dos primeros siglos de nuestra Era. Como resultado de la actividad realizada en ellas a lo largo de más de 200 años, estas minas de oro han pasado a ser unas de las más importantes de todo el Imperio Romano. En la actualidad, el territorio aurífero de Tresminas, por ser el más complejo y el mejor conservado y por extenderse a lo largo de varios kilómetros, es el más importante del Portugal romano.
