Exhibit of the Month
This delicate ivory piece skilfully represents the expulsion from heaven of Lucifer and the rebel angels. It is an allegory of sin and its punishment that underscores the contrast between the joyful attitude of the saints in glory, close to the Holy Trinity, and the agony of the angelic beings condemned for their pride, who become demons as they fall to hell and are devoured by monsters. Adam and Eve's expulsion from Eden as a result of original sin, depicted on the bottom of the metal frame, reinforces this idea.
