Numidian period

Archaeological Monuments and RuinsSalto de línea

The twenty-three photographs in this section feature around a dozen monumental mausoleums in which prominent Numidian leaders were buried and were still in good condition in the mid-19th century.

Although the majority, including those of Maktar, Dougga, Sidi Aich and Haidra, take the form of towers, others, like the mausoleum of Ksar-el-Menara, are round or tumulus-shaped.

The author of these photographs is unknown, but the identical type of shot and format of the prints indicates that they were all taken by the same person and belong to the same iconographic series.

These images were displayed in the fourth frame, "Mausoleums of ancient times", in Gallery III at the European History Exhibition.
