The arrival of the Arabs in 711 and their swift expansion are traditionally regarded as the beginning of the Middle Ages on the Iberian Peninsula. For eight hundred years, Muslims and Christians shared land, economy and culture, with intermittent periods of stability and conflict and eventually culminating in the Christian conquest of the Nasrid kingdom by the Catholic Monarchs at the end of the 15th century.
