Ancient Greece is a soundscape where music envelops everything. The ancient Greeks’ concept of music was much broader than ours, encompassing musical practice as well as literature, dance and theatre—in short, anything that required inspiration. Music was taught at school as one of the cornerstones of Greek culture. From birth, men and women were accompanied by music in every stage of their lives, as well as at feasts, sporting competitions, wars and in their interactions with the gods. Music is a powerful weapon with an extraordinary ability to influence and transform human behaviour.
