Since its creation nearly 150 years ago, the National Archaeological Museum has changed the way in which it displays its rich and diverse collections to the public on several occasions.
Additions to the collections, moves to new premises and various remodellings, combined with new directions in archaeological research, new scientific discoveries, changes in the definition of the museum concept and the latest trends in exhibition design, have influenced and defined the presentation of the museum’s permanent collection over the years.
On each occasion, the museum has embraced the most innovative display trends of the day, and the history of its permanent exhibitions therefore represents an important chapter in the evolution of exhibition design in Spain.
